VB-G RAM G Grievance Rules 2026: Complaints Must Now Be Resolved in 15 Days

On 2 November 2026, the Centre notified the VB-G RAM G Grievance Redressal Rules, 2026. The main change for workers under the Ministry of Rural Development’s rules: every complaint must be registered with a number, and resolved within 15 days.

In one line: however you complain – in person, by speed post, online or by phone – it cannot be turned away. Inquiry within 7 days, resolution within 15, or the complaint moves up to a higher officer automatically.

What the new rules say

  • Officers at every level: states must name grievance redressal officers at the gram panchayat, block and district levels.
  • No complaint refused: a complaint cannot be rejected because of its language, format or how it was sent.
  • Acknowledgement: every complainant gets a receipt with a registration number, date, and the receiving officer’s designation.
  • Paper complaints go online: complaints handed in on paper must be entered on the digital platform the same day or by the next working day.
  • Right to be heard: complainants get a chance to be heard, in person or online, before a decision.
  • Outcome shared: the findings and action taken must be told to the complainant.

What you can complain about

Under Section 25 of the VB-G RAM G Act, 2025: being denied work, late or unpaid wages, unpaid unemployment allowance, missing worksite facilities, discrimination and harassment.

Four ways to file

  1. In person to the grievance officer at the gram panchayat, block or district.
  2. By speed post (keep proof of delivery).
  3. Online, with your mobile number and an OTP. Step-by-step with screenshots: how to file an NREGA complaint online.
  4. By phone / helpline, or any other method your state allows.

Before complaining, check your payment status – payments are often stuck because of a bank or Aadhaar issue your bank can fix.

What was dropped from the draft

Some provisions from the May 2026 draft are not in the final rules, including penalties for officials who delay, registering an FIR for financial irregularities, and a fixed weekly “grievance day”. According to Business Standard, several of these already appear in Schedule I (paragraph 28) of the Act, so leaving them out of the rules does not remove the legal duty. The opposition Congress has criticised the changes; the government says the rules make time-bound redressal a requirement.

Three tips for workers

  • Complain in writing and always get the acknowledgement / token number.
  • If nothing happens in 15 days, check the status with your token to see whether it was escalated.
  • Not satisfied with the decision? Appeal within 45 days.
